Dubinsky David Aleksandrovich
(1920-1960)
Creative way remarkable graphic artist and illustrator DA Dubinsky was in the complex for the years of Russian art. The artist did not escape the difficulties and mistakes, typical of many illustrators 1940-50-ies., But his work in recent years have left an indelible mark on the history of Russian book graphics.
Childhood and adolescence Dubinsky took place in Moscow, where in the early 1920s. joined by his family. In 1938-39. he studies at the Drawing Studio KP Czemko, his cartoons published in the magazine "Crocodile". In 1940, Dubinsky goes to MGHI, and once in the third year.
But the war interrupted his studies, he participated in it as an artist front of the newspaper. In 1944, Dubinsky became the art editor of the Naval publishing house in Moscow, where he published the first book with his illustrations.
The interest in caricature, drawing a sharp satirical identified and technology (ink, pen), and the whole structure of an early book illustrations Dubinsky, and some features of the figures of this time - the expression, the acute response of images - manifested in some of his later work.
The young artist returned to study at the Institute and in 1946 he defended his thesis - illustrations for the novel T. Gauthier "Captain Fracassi." They are visible virtuoso technique draftsman, the ability to transfer a given situation, a Distinguishing portrait, subtly display the details of everyday life. Dubinsky remains true to the previously chosen technique - PEROVA drawing, in which he performs then the illustrations for the "Comedy" Goldoni "Gavroche" Victor Hugo (1946), "The History of Henry Esmond" and "Vanity Fair" by WM Thackeray ( 1947), "Tragical History of Dr. Faustus," Marlowe K. (1949).
In many publications Dubinsky joins lightweight feather design with a solid black ink fills - such a welcome exacerbates the composition of illustrations and contributes to a more dynamic perception of the book as a whole. Expressive paintings of this time, they concentrate in themselves the most acute, the nodal situation.
At the turn of the 1940s and 50s. Dubinsky runs in a black watercolor technique, which provides ample opportunities for creating tone-dimensional illustration, where the image is based on subtle gradations of tones. Dubinsky series, with deep certainty reveals plots of AP Gaidar, SP Antonova, Turgenev, Chekhov A, etc.
Sharp, grotesque the first years are giving way to the illustrations, different psychological and subtle emotion. The artist seeks to reject the narrative of illustration, but it often uses narrative, figurative, creating both a stand-alone graphic sheets.
Major success brought Dubinskiy work on publications of stories A-AP Gaidar "Chuk and Gek" (1950), "PBC" (1951), "Distant Countries" (1953), "Blue Cup" (1957). The combination of simplicity and sober romantic pathos in his drawings matches the style of the works of this writer.
Significant place in the artist's series of illustrations also took to the works of Anton Chekhov. In the figures to the story "The House with the Mezzanine" (1954) and "The Man in a Case" (1957), to the "Motley Stories" (1958) minor, apparently, continuous episodes of the text create a feeling of smooth flow of life. Master seeks to transfer the general mood, the state of the characters through their environment, actively showing environment - landscapes, interiors. For example, in the illustration to the "House with the Mezzanine" nature is echoed by the people and their feelings, and in illustrations to the story I. Ilf and Petrov "Tonya" (1958), the artist, on the contrary, opposes the cold, alienated environment of the main character of the work.
The last two years of his life devoted to work Dubinsky on a large series of illustrations for the novel AIKuprin "Duel", published after his death (1962). In this brilliant cycle of psychological tension action is enhanced color (illustration made with tempera). The main idea of this and the previous work was reverent depiction of the human desire for happiness. Imbued with the same idea, and many easel graphic work Dubinsky, in particular a series of "About Love".
