Samokish Nikolai Semenovich (1860-1944)

Samokish (Nikolai Semenovich) - batalicheskih painter, draftsman and akvafortist, born in 1860, studied at Nejinskaya school, from which, in 1879, joined the students of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts, where, in 1884, was awarded the small gold medal for written on the competition program picture: "The episode of the battle of the Small-Yaroslavets, in 1812," and in 1885 was awarded a large gold medal for the execution of the program: "Russian cavalry is coming back after the attack on the enemy in 1812."

After the state retiree Academy from 1885 to 1888, was improved in Paris, under the direction of Detaille, and twice traveled to the Caucasus in order to gather material for paintings, commissioned for the Tiflis Museum, and drawings of residence of Emperor Alexander III and his wife in Tiflis.

 They performed a large number of drawings (mostly sketching pen) for a variety of illustrated books. Exercising in the first time of his activity akvafortnym engraving, he has published up to 30 sheets depicting mainly domestic scenes involving soldiers, peasants and horses.
