Art education Hristinek received in St. Petersburg. One of his teachers was LK Pfandtselt, German painter and restorer. In 1761 Hristinek charge of developing the preparatory board for tiling painting "Battle of Poltava" performed in the workshop of the Board of Governors.

Hristinek known primarily as a portrait painter. This is the first Russian painter "of the Germans," and he portrayed mostly middle nobility, soldiers, intellectuals and representatives of the German colony of St. Petersburg. Among the models of the artist is no "socialite" or high-level government officials. Portrait of Count Alexei Orlov-Chesmensky (1779, TG) is a rare exception.

According to J. Staehelin, Hristinek was a "good city painter and portraitist lucky" (Notes Jakob Staehelin the fine arts in Russia / Comp., Translated from the German lang., Will enter. Art. K. Works Hristineka usually modest, without the glitter painting maestro, but filled with strong, accurate and "Flawless" brush. During submitted in 1785 to the Academy of Fine Arts "Portrait of a Mother" Hristinek was recognized as "designated" in academics. At the same time he was given the title of academician of the program - the result of the work was the "Portrait of an associate rector Velten" (RM). Hristinek played competitive portrait in 1786, but the balloting took place, and the title of academician artist has not received.

After the master's death came the long years of almost total oblivion. Meanwhile, has survived about a hundred of his works, which indicates the popularity of the artist's contemporaries.
