Isaak Brodsky
(1883-1939)

Brodsky was born in the family of a merchant. He studied at the Odessa Art School (1896-1902) in LD Iorini, KK Kostandi and GA Ladyzhensky, then continued his education at the Higher Art School in St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1902-08), where he studied with I . Tsionglinskogo F. and I. Repin .

In the years 1909-11. Arts as a pensioner visited Germany, France, Italy, Spain, in the years 1910-11. lived on the island of Capri in Gorky.

Gifted, hard-working and well-prepared, Brodsky quickly determined in art. In numerous paintings (mostly landscapes) with a certain mannerisms he used some of the methods and motives of the old masters.

Early on, he carefully brought them symbolist elements of fiction ("Fairytale", 1911), and later more rigorously adhered to reality ("Winter", 1913, "Fallen Leaves", 1915). In the years of his youth, which coincided with the first Russian revolution, he paid tribute to the policies and even made a sketch of "The Red Funeral", but the picture itself, it never came.

By the mid-1910s. he already had a reputation as a fully formed artist with some shade of the cabin. However, after 1917, Brodsky has dramatically changed direction and became the ancestor of the semi-official art, long anticipating its heyday in the 1930s and beyond. The painting "Lenin and demonstration" (1919) marked the beginning of a series of competing for the documentary works devoted to the leader of the proletariat, of which the best known acquired painting "Lenin in Smolny" (1930).

Following the huge (150 characters) canvas, depicting the opening of the II Congress of the Communist International (1920-24), was written by another - "The shooting of the 26 Baku Commissars" (1925). Numerous paintings and lithographic portraits Brodsky imprinted party and state leaders. His works were widely promoted and reproduced countless times, is a component of the falsified history of the country. The regime has generously rewarded him for his loyal service: the life he was the first among the artists received the Order of Lenin (1934) and led the newly created All-Russia AX, and after his death his name was given to one of the most beautiful streets in the center of Leningrad (now St. Michael's again. ). The best is what remains after Brodsky - assembled them an excellent collection of Russian paintings and drawings stored in his apartment-museum, a branch of the Research Museum of the Russian Academy of Arts.
