The name was borrowed from the story of AI Herzen "Notes Krupova doctor." Written clearly influenced by the works of PA Fedotov (at one time and it was attributed to one of the pioneers of artistic and satirical movement in painting), a small-sized product is still rather humorous scene from the life passes far from the capital city, with its ceremonial county town. The picture belongs to the "story" of painting (as it can be to teach students how to write small tales), which was characteristic of the genre of works by members of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions, and which many later received a hefty, often undeserved criticism for "literary effect." And the work (by the way, originally called "The Governor, depicting himself on parade") for agile from the composition and poses of characters, showing the skill of the painter, was a great success.
