Klodt (Clodt background Jurgensburg) Mikhail Petrovich (1835-1914)

Russian painting - a genre painter, member of the Association of the Wanderers.
son of Peter Karlovich Kdodta - an outstanding Russian sculptor and educator.

In 1842-61 he studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts.
In 1862-65 he lived abroad as a pensioner of the Academy.

In his best works were reflected the everyday life of the working people ("Finnish peasant way of life", 1857, "from the life of Norman fishermen", 1860, "Black Bench", 1872, the painting "The Return of the field" and "Village christening" for which received the title of Academician.

In a number of works of K. sympathetically drawn to themes of grief and suffering ("Sick musician", 1859, elegiac painting "The Last Spring", 1861, "Sisters of Mercy", 1884, etc.).
However, some of the later works show a departure from the democratic traditions of realistic art, it has the features of the surface of sentimentality ("Colosseum", 1886, etc.).
He also wrote historical paintings, limited them mainly private life episodes of the past ("Getting the reforms of Peter 1", 1895, "Jester" 1897).
