George Christopher Groot, known as "small" in its growth, was in the painters' guild in Prague. He was born in Stuttgart, the son of a local court painter, and was completing his art education in Dresden. In 1741, he was invited to c. Levenvoldom in Revel, then - on his recommendation - to St. Petersburg. In 1743, he appeared in St. Petersburg at the court of Elizabeth, where his art quickly became fashionable, and received an official capacity "gallery director" and "court Mahler." He wrote all the color Elizabethan court.

Mladshy, Johann Friedrich Groot (1717-1806), was mainly animal painter. In Russia since 1743, previously worked in Vienna. Master masterly writing feathers, fur animals, which glorified it even at home. During his stay in Russia, he wrote a number of still lifes and scenes of animals and birds. And, since 43 of them were in an unheated hunting pavilion "Monbizhu" in Tsarskoye Selo, the artist involuntarily had to learn a new profession for himself - restorer. His still lifes restored were transferred to the Academy of Fine Arts, where he became the first teacher of a class "of animals and birds," and for a long time served as models for the training of young artists.
