Riess Franz Nikolayevich (1804-1886)Franz Nikolaevich Riess was a famous portrait painter of his time, and a master of household compositions. For thirty years, he has become fashionable in St. Petersburg artist. In the early 1830s he gained popularity creates a "Portrait of a young woman in a pink dress" (1832), "Portrait of Prince Grigory Petrovich Volkonskogo", "Portrait of the poet Vasily Zhukovsky" (both - 1833), "Portrait of Prince Golitsyn Alexei and his son lion "(1835), etc. For the portrait, VA Zhukovsky FN Riess was awarded in 1833 the title of Academician of portraiture. In succeeding years, the artist showed his great skill. In the Tretyakov Gallery are his work "Gypsy camp in the Forest" (1842), and "Self-Portrait" (1843). Devotion Franz N. Riesz painting and his active work on development of Russian art in 1863 led to the election of the artist honorary member of the Academy of Fine Arts.
Finally, it is known that FN Riess, along with well-known domestic painters took part in the decoration of St. Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg.
