Makarov, Ivan Kuzmich (1822-1897)

In the painting, Ivan Kuzmich Makarov came on the emerging family tradition. His father graduated from the once famous Arzamasskaya Stupin school and worked as an art teacher in those days in the provincial town of Saransk, Penza province. He then established his own first drawing school in Saransk, and then in the most Penza.

It was under the guidance of his father, the young GI Makarov has achieved initial success in the visual reality. In 1845 he entered the Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under the guidance of renowned teacher AT Markov. In 1853, at the expense of the Society for Promotion of Arts and with the help of Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna I. Makarov goes abroad, where most of his time in Rome.

The artist painted many portraits of dignified, among which stand out for their gracefulness of women and children. For a series of works in this genre on his return to St. Petersburg (1855) IK Makarov was awarded the title of Academician.

Among his works are carried out by private orders, a lot of icons and religious images. That is why his teacher at the Academy of AT Markov invited him to participate in the decoration of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. In 1885, a great response to the artistic and religious circles caused written by IK Makarov "miraculous image of the Savior."
